21st Century Lesbian Trailer Trash

These are the mad musings of a middle aged woman, dyke, nurse, poet. I have a dog, a cat, a mobile home, and delusions of grandeur.

If you can define this term for me in a way that I can understand it, I'll send you my Starbucks cup.

I love Blac(k)ademic but I think I just smacked up against that wall called Your Brain is Really Really Big and Mine Don't Work So Good No More.

Maybe sometime in the next month or so I'll write a post called I'm Normal, You're Not. Or Maybe I Have That Backwards. I'm beginning to understand why it was a good thing I didn't go for a doctorate.

It could be that I'm just having a 70's moment. Days with the Redstockings or the Lavendar Menace. I may keep coming back to this. It's exploding my brain. For real.

Oh, oh, oh! Pick me!

Actually I'm at the tail end of completing a Gender Studies course and "hereronormativity" is a term that came up very often throughout the year.

It's more or less a term that was coined to criticize the generalizations and labels society sets for each gender. Sexuality, sexual preference, behaviours, etc.

It's complex and I'm really no authority on the subject, but that's the gist of it. A huge topic, but a really interesting one at the same time.

Hmmmmmm. That's very dense. (As in pithy and complex, not stoopid).

I had to go back and add to this. I think my time on the Planet is winding down. I used to go nuts over words like that. Now they make me weep.

But you may well be the winner Better Half. In the meantime, I'm going to wander over and see what your world looks like.

Let me give it a shot.. hehe.. from what I can assertain, it is saying that when you have heteronormativity, you are recognizing that only male and female roles exist in society and people need to fall into these categories and the restraints then placed on them when they do, such as only having feelings for the opposite sex. Bascially it limits our choices in society.

Hows that? *hugs Caly

lmao! Pam, take heart... is not a word I'd toss around, either. I as much said this in my posting on it, will leave it to those who wish to get into the academics of it, we simply live it/deal with it, and it is that personal level from which I wrote. So much easier!

Very Good Caly. It's starting to make some sense.

But yeppers Nelle. I think I'm with you. I'm glad people are talking about it. But I'm thinking that they made up a word to make it sound more official in the academic realm.

I think I'll leave that one and talk about memes. ;^)

Oh, I've been writing a post about that subject this weekend for my Monday post!

It's time to add Nurse Pam to my "blogs I read list".

You are too kind Sangroncito. I was over at your space again this morning and realized that whenever I update, you really belong on my Great Guys list.
