21st Century Lesbian Trailer Trash

These are the mad musings of a middle aged woman, dyke, nurse, poet. I have a dog, a cat, a mobile home, and delusions of grandeur.

Don't Believe It

From the New York Times regarding the Duke lacrosse team rape case:

The ensuing investigation uncovered an e-mail message from one lacrosse player saying he planned to invite strippers to his dormitory room and kill and skin them. That led to the student's suspension, the resignation of the coach, the suspension of the team's season and the establishment of five panels to examine behavior by the lacrosse team and Duke University...

An emergency room physician and sexual assault nurse specialist, who examined the woman on the night of the incident, said they had found injuries consistent with rape. The police application for a search warrant stated, "Medical records and interviews that were obtained by a subpoena revealed the victim had signs, symptoms and injuries consistent with being raped and sexually assaulted."

The Team captain's lawyer said that photographs prove she was already bruised when she arrived at the party and that "There is no evidence other than the word of this one complaining person that any rape or sexual assault took place in that house that evening."
[All emphasis mine].

Can you spell coverup? Can you define preppie privilege? If so, go to the head of the class.

Sadly, all too probable, Pam. I bet Justice is glad she's wearing that blindfold nowadays, when it's meted out in proportion to pocket depth.

I loved her brother's comments today... media keeps referring to her as "the stripper" when she is a human being, mother, sister, student, daughter...

I've seen some columns by men condemning this heinous event.

There is a definite sense of entitlement in our culture towards access to women's bodies, and nowhere is that attitude more pronounced than amongst college age athletes. Abusing someone becomes another sport to them.
