So Much for the Flu Vaccine

I'm a huge cheerleader for the flu vaccine. But they seem to have missed the mark this year. And this virus is nasty. I am on my way to work to meet the Public Health department. We have about 25 residents out of 94 who are ill. 4 have already been hospitalized in the past 2 days. I'm working until 8 or 9 every night.

About 30% of my nursing staff is out ill. We all had the vaccine.

The health department will let us know if we actually have the influenza in our facility. I think I can bet on the answer.

Expected to come up for air sometime next week.

I'm sorry to hear that. We got the flu around the Middle of Nov, and blaine still has a horrible cough, I hope things don't last that long there.

We have 2 confirmed cases of Influenza type A out of 6 people tested. Apparently, the rapid test will only show positive if the infected person is running a fever. They have taken the samples back to the lab for more extensive testing. They will let us know the results when they have them. In the meantime, I have about 21 out of 94 residents who have been ill with flu like symptoms. 4 have been hospitalized since Monday night. 2 spiked temps as high as 105 orally. It's a very nasty bug. All of the cottages are quarantined. We're using masks, sanitizer, and amantadine for staff and residents.
